Type of Collars
|
|
| Regular collars: The length of the collar (from
the collar root to the point) is beteern 85 to 95 mm, and the angle
between the collar tips is from 75° to 95°. A half windsor
knot suits this style well. |
|
| Wide-spread collars: They are also called windsor
collars, a typical British style. The length of collar is slightly
longer and the angle between collar tips is wider than that of regular
collars. The angle is normally between 100° to 140° but
can go upto 180° in extreme case. Windsor knot is the best style
for this type. |
|
| Button-down collars: There is a button-hole near
the collar tip, which is fixed to the button on the shirt. This
is a typical American style. The colalr tips show various styles,
a longer tips can be curled at the edge (rolled button-down ) or
flat (flat button-down), and a short tips is called short button-down.
The angle between the tips is normally equal or smaller than that
of regular collars, therefore suits small or half windsor knot.

|
| Tag collars: Those collars contain a tag at the
back of each tip. the two tags join at the middle and the tie goes
down over the tag. A small knot is normally associated to this collar
as its angle is small. |
|
| Pinhole collars: At the centre of each collar
tip is a small hole, which holds a stud. Like the tag collars, this
collar suits a small knot. |
|
| Short-point collars: The collars have a similar
angle like the regular collars , but their tips are shorter. Half
windsor or small knot is normally fits this style. |
|
| Round collars: The collar tips are round, which
is an old-aged style. |
|
| Wing collars: Wing collars hold collar tips that
fold outwards like wings. They are normally linked with bow ties. |
|
| Standup collars: The collars contain no collar
tips. As the collar is like a band, it is also called a band collar.
Normally no ties are used with those collars. |
